Steiner Ranch’s Brian Charles Salon owner Ric Salvadalena was featured on Fox News 7’s Good Day Austin program on September 25 to talk about the latest fall trends.
Fall 2013 can be characterized by the disheveled, fresh-out-of-bed look, whether your hair is short, medium or long. Simple, textured shapes, very little layering around the face, create the basis for creating unique looks with styling and product.
Color is big this fall, being used to define the style, rather than being the end of the style process. Darker base colors with rich, well-placed highlights enhance the cut in just the right places, making for dramatic looks without being over the top.
Short is in
The fall 2013 trend for short hair features long interior layers under shorter textured top layers to create movement. Products help boost the shape from the sophisticated feel of Robin Wright’s style to Michelle William’s edgier look, using products from Kevin Murphy’s soft styling Anti-Gravity Lotion to his stronger paste, Gritty Business.
A simple, layered bob, such as Nicole Kidman’s stylish bob, can bring the drama with heavy texturing and strong products to create a bold, confident look using soft texture sprays and styling lotion, such as Kersastase spray a porter and Cimente Thermique, going to bold hold with Kevin Murphy’s Night Rider, a strong wax.
Medium hangs off the edge
In the past few seasons, medium-length hair has had a tendency to frame the face more, but all that has changed for fall 2013. Movement is the byword for medium hair, achieved using product and styling technique, such as Jennifer Lawrence and Karlie Kloss’ medium cut styled with hot tools to create edgier waves.
Long may it wave
One of the best trends for fall 2013 is away from layering around the face and more toward a longer, softer face frame with a whimsical messiness, worn so well by Selena Gomez .
The stronger, more sleek look that Amanda Siefried is sporting on the covers of many fashion magazines this season uses color to achieve a sense of movement while adding contrast and placement.
Regardless of which longer style fits your lifestyle, blow dry gels like Kerastase Forme Fatale and volumizing mousses, such as Mousse Bouffante, complete the bold style.
