After moving to Austin to be closer to family, Gerard DeSantis, DMD, wanted to open an orthodontic practice close to home.
“I had been trying to open a location in the Four Points area for the last year and a half and am thrilled that I am finally open,” DeSantis said. “I live near Four Points with my family and love the area. From the beautiful wooded hills to the trails, lake and creeks, you can’t beat Austin and Steiner Ranch for family fun and outdoor living.”
He celebrated the opening of his private practice, The Ranch Orthodontics, in early June at Quinlan Crossing, 5145 RM 620 N., Ste. G120.
DeSantis said he provides braces and Invisalign for adults and teens. He and his team are certified Invisalign and Invisalign teen providers. He said they are also experts on early treatment for pediatric patients that have orthodontic issues with their developing or foundational dentition.
“Our goal is to provide excellent orthodontic care in a fun environment where everyone feels comfortable asking questions about treatment,” he said. “Over the years, I have found that the more people know about what we are doing, the better our results are.”
DeSantis has been doing braces for 15 years and has been a private practice orthodontist for 12 years. Prior to moving to Austin, he owned a practice in New Mexico.
“Our practice in New Mexico was known for providing great treatment in a fun atmosphere and I want to continue that tradition here in Steiner Ranch,” he said.
With the popularity and effectiveness of Invisalign braces, DeSantis said he has seen a huge increase in the number of adult patients. He said that, nationally, nearly 30 percent of orthodontic patients are adults.
“It has been a huge shift in orthodontics in the last 20 years,” he said. “Braces are an option for adults and we are now able to provide treatment for most adult orthodontic issues with Invisalign. You can eat what you want, get the smile that you want, and do it comfortably while having confidence that people can’t see your braces and are not even aware that you are undergoing a smile makeover.”
DeSantis said the best part about his job is seeing the transformation that people experience when they feel more confident in their smiles.
“What is especially fun is that I get to watch kids transform into confident young adults and I get to watch adults achieve that beautiful smile and self that they have wanted,” he said. “Being even a small part of that is truly something special.”
He said one aspect that makes his practice unique is his team’s ability to communicate with and relate to their patients.
“As parents and consumers, we look for the right fit in a provider,” he said. “Almost all orthodontists have expertise, but I know that when I choose a doctor for my children, I want someone that can communicate with them as well as my wife and me.”
He said that his practice offers that. Additionally, there is almost no type of case or orthodontic issue that he cannot manage. From the straightforward tooth straightening to complex cases requiring multiple types of specialists.
