Four Points Family Chiropractic doubled in size over decade

As one of the first healthcare providers to move into Four Points in 2005, Four Points Family Chiropractic has continued to grow — doubling in size with a complete renovation last summer, and expanded services in chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and nutrition.

fourpointschiropractic_logo14a_2-860Four Points Family Chiropractic is located in River Place and is owned by Dr. Ross Coccimiglio, a Canadian who first moved to Austin in 2004 with his wife, Kristie. Prior to their move, Coccimiglio practiced for two years in Boston after earning a Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minn. After settling in Austin, the couple began looking at possible locations where he could open his own practice.

“After looking at different areas in north Austin, we fell in love with the Hill Country and the Four Points area and thought that it would be a great place to practice,” he said. “The rest is history.”

In 2008, Coccimiglio brought a second doctor into the practice — Dr. Bolden Harris, a Texas native who earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College in Davenport, IA, with honors as valedictorian, graduating summa cum laude. In 2012, the practice added a third doctor — Dr. Chris Ammann, a Texas native who earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from Parker University in Dallas.

Dr. Coccimiglio and Dr. Harris both have specialized certifications in chiropractic pediatrics, a post-graduate certification. They specialize in pediatric care for children as young as newborns to treat conditions such as colic, ear infections, asthma, scoliosis and reflux.

They also offer prenatal care to help with the aches and pains common during pregnancy. The most common issue they hear among pregnant women is low back pain.

“With a balanced and aligned spine, the labor is usually shortened and easier,” Coccimiglio said.

One aspect of the clinic that makes it unique, he said, is that they offer care for all ages, from babies up to geriatric care. He said the doctors also work a lot with the local schools and offers physicals for student athletes.

“We’re very plugged into the community,” Coccimiglio said. “We sponsor a lot of the organizations such as Run the Ranch, golf tournaments, VHS sports programs and booster clubs. We offer sports physicals for students and we donate half the fee back to the booster club of the student’s choice.”

Coccimiglio said the majority of the patients they see have back pain issues, but they also treat those suffering from headaches, neck pain, fibromyalgia and injuries from car accidents. He said many of their patients are looking to try something new after seeing poor results from conventional western medicine.

“We can offer that solution,” he said. “Seeing the results from something non-invasive, that’s the best reward. We hear from patients, ‘Why did no one recommend this before? Why did I have to go through this process of physical therapy or this drug?’”

Four Points Family Chiropractic also has a full-time massage therapist and acupuncturist on staff. While the entire office is open Monday through Friday, massage appointments are also available on Saturdays.

The doctors also offer free monthly educational workshops on topics such as weight loss, detox cleanses, ways to boost the immune system and increase energy and aging gracefully. The workshop schedule is available on the calendar atwww.fourpointschiropractic.com. Appointments can also be made online through the site.

Coccimiglio said there have been many advances in chiropractic care over recent years.

“I don’t think people realize how advanced chiropractic care has gotten over the past decade compared to the past,” he said. “It’s gotten so much more advanced, clinical and scientific and has more evidenced-based results.”
