Canyon Ridge Middle School was vandalized over the weekend of Oct. 22-23.
“It is saddening and disheartening that students would find damaging property fun. I am truly disappointed that our beautiful building has been treated in this way,” said Susan Sullivan, CRMS principal.
Vandals spray painted and exterior wall with crude images of penises, a “tag” and the phrases “Middle school f****t fight me” and “Show me your d**c (sic) f****t.” (The graffiti included misspellings.)
The school currently has no security footage of the event or the culprits, and the offending images were removed by power washing and sandblasting the building’s exterior on Sunday.
According to Veronica Sopher, Leander ISD Assistant Superintendent of Community and Government Relations, “Unfortunately, yes there have been other incidents like this” in LISD.
Furthermore, photos of the graffiti quickly spread throughout the Four Points student community via social media.
Gavin Vanna is an 8th grader at CRMS. He saw a picture of the vandalism on Instagram Sunday morning after being alerted to it by a friend. He was unimpressed. “I think it is not appropriate to be on the side of a school… That’s some serious property damage.”
Anyone with information about the culprits is encouraged to contact CRMS.
In the meantime, the District emphasizes that, “We want our community to help our students to understand that this kind of destructive behavior is not acceptable. It causes distress and pulls resources that could be better used to improve our schools and programs.”
