A Sunday night car crash near the entrance of Steiner Ranch took the life of Jon-Erik Cameron Williams — a father of three, a son, a brother and a friend.
“I’m glad the last day (you) were here on earth our daughter got to spend it with (you). It was a Father’s Day nobody expected,” posted ViVi Rae on Facebook. She and Williams, a San Marcos native, are parents to a 7-year-old daughter. “R.I.P. to my daughter’s dad.”
Williams, 28, lost control of the vehicle he was driving and smashed into a tree in the median near the entrance to Quinlan Crossing shopping center around 9:54 p.m. on June. 18, said a Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
A person called to report that a man was pinned in his car on Quinlan Park Road and was unconscious. No one else was inside the car.
When medics arrived, they said it was clear the Williams had critical, life-threatening injuries. Austin-Travis County EMS officials extracted him from his car and began resuscitation efforts, but he was later declared dead at the scene.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office was assisting at the scene and DPS was dispatched to take the lead on the investigation. As of Tuesday morning, there were no new details to report. A witness told authorities prior to the crash that Williams drove by them going at a high rate of speed, reports say.
Williams was born Sept. 14, 1988. Many friends and family have expressed condolences on social media. One example is Tony Lee of Arkansas who posted on Facebook, “My prayers goes out to his family.” Williams was a “pretty cool guy.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses. It states:
“We lost a son, a brother, a father, and a friend. Erik had the biggest heart and went through the temptations of life trying to find his way. Through his trials and tribulations family has always been by his side to help guide and give him support. Erik had something special in life and to try and understand him will become a puzzle to many. Erik lived by faith and was powered by the strength of our Lord. He left behind 3 beautiful little girls who thought the world of him and loved him dearly. My family hearts hurt and we grieve knowing that we lost him too soon.”
