Editor’s note: at the time of publication, all 58 precincts in Williamson County had reported election results, and 76 of 150 in Travis County had been reported.
Voters approved a $454.4 million bond package on Election Day, which will allow Leander ISD to address the rapid district growth, safety and facility improvements throughout the district.
At the time of publication, a total of 8,809 votes included 66 percent in favor of the measure. Williamson County voters approved of the proposition at 65 percent, and 69 percent approved in Travis County.
The fastest growing district in Texas is slated to gain 1,200 new students per year. The bond’s contents aims at addressing the growth by:
- building four new schools in four years;
- purchasing land for nine future schools;
- expanding Leander Middle School and Vandegrift High School;
- expanding instructional spaces for career programs in its high schools;
- replacing outdated technology throughout the district.
Leander ISD officials expressed gratitude to the district voters for participating in the election.
“The results thus far are promising and we’re continuing to monitor the election,” said Corey Ryan, district spokesperson. “We want to thank all the voters who came out and had their voices heard. We’ll have more information tomorrow once all precincts are in.”
The district will begin considering the next steps of this bond, including the location, construction and attendance area process for Elementary School No. 27 at the Nov. 16 regular meeting. Trustees will discuss the construction phases for the proposed projects, as well as the formation of a standing citizen’s advisory committee to oversee bond projects and continue the discussion on how LISD addresses growth.
