Family owned businesses are a source of pride for local communities and Five Stone Tax Advisers is no different. Founded and owned by husband and wife, John Paul (JP) and Kellyn Krueger, the company has grown and thrived since their beginning nearly a decade ago.
Back when they first opened in 2008, Five Stone had a smaller staff of seven employees and offered fewer services, mostly as tax resolution and tax preparation. Much like the inspiration for the Five Stone name, they prove that smaller does not mean ineffective. Alluding to the story of David and Goliath, the Krueger’s saw their services as being a small yet useful, much like the stones David used to overcome his great challenge. The company takes pride in working the same way, being thorough in their methods to help clients and do best for them.
This dedication to their customers has allowed Five Stones to grow, now boasting a wider range of services such as property tax, tax planning, and international tax while also now employing 35 associates. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Five Stones received the 2017 Ethics in Business & Community Award on May 18. An event with hundreds of attendants, those awarded are honored for their outstanding ethical business practices and the idea that doing good is good business.
Austin may have recognized the efforts of the Kruegers and Five Stone, but the couple had only moved to Steiner in 2007. Before that, JP served three years U.S. Marine Corps and then attended the University of Idaho, where he and Kellyn had graduated from. The two have continued to live in Austin since moving here, raising their two sons, Luke (age 6) and Roman (age 4).
The Kruegers have had experience before running their own business, with JP having twenty years of leading organizations in the retail, service, and financial sectors while Kellyn started her career in public accounting. Since then, the couple have shifted their work to making their business grow, welcomed by the Steiner community.
The company has worked to help those in the local area with the ever frustrating matter of finances, mostly helping clients pay less in taxes. Making a positive impact is the purpose of Five Stone, one that the Kruegers hold highly along with their devotion for Jesus and family. The Kruegers are an example of how a small family business can grow and benefit their communities, and that good work does not go unrecognized.
