Hardy to leave after season

The soccer season is fully underway, and the Lady Vipers finished last week with back-to-back wins over Plano West and Schertz Clemens to improve to 2-3-1 on the season.

The boys started their schedule with a series of losses in tournament play, going 1-6 in their first seven outings, with a 2-1 victory over Aldine Davis back on Jan. 5.

The Vipers dropped contests against Coppell (4-0) and Flower Mound Marcus (4-0) last weekend and will host Westwood on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Vipers lost to Round Rock (1-0) before a pair of 1-0 victories to finish the Governor’s Cup tournament in Georgetown. They’ll play at Round Rock on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Hardy to leave

Jen Hardy, Vandegrift girls athletic coordinator and girls head soccer coach, shared with her players and parents last week that this will be her final season at VHS as a coach and teacher.

“Please know that this decision was not made lightly,” Hardy shared in an email. “My choice to resign comes purely from being ready to go see what else the future and this wonderful world have in store for me.”

She mentioned that she is making career change into fashion with a designer clothing line and that she’ll be working with her father’s self-defense company.

Hardy lead the program to win a UIL (4A) State title in 2014.In 2015, the Lady Vipers made a repeat visit to the State tournament, coming away with a silver medal. In 2016 the ladies made it back to the top 8 as Regional Finalists.

Drew Sanders, VHS athletic coordinator, stated in an email: “I want to publicly thank Coach Hardy (she’s not done yet) for all she’s done to establish our culture of winning in VHS soccer. We will miss her greatly. It’s been so much fun to watch and cheer for the girls’ program over the years and I look for many more years of success.”
