Some 400 runners, walkers and dogs participated in the 13th annual Run the Ranch 5K & Kids Fun Run at Towne Square Community Center in Steiner Ranch on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Hill Country Special Needs Alliance, which started in 2016 by Steiner families.

Proceeds from the race and its 391 runners go to the alliance. HCSNA’s mission is to help alleviate some of the financial burden on special needs families by offsetting costs for such things as therapy bills, equipment, insurance gap coverage, respite care, family counseling, and camp scholarships, said Elizabeth Carrero, one of six HCSNA board members who put on the event.

Alex Rayson, 13, was the overall male winner with a time of 18:12.7, and Taylor Mathis, 14, was the overall female winner with a time of 19:08.

New awards this year were first dog winner: Parker, who was run by Neva Rognes, and first stroller winner, which was Elyse Derian with little one Vera.

Runners and the community enjoyed breakfast provided by Cups & Cones, with activities including a balloon artists, face painting and bounce houses.
