Lady Vipers advance to second round

Vandegrift advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 2-1 win over San Antonio Reagan in last Thursday’s bi-district playoffs.

Reagan took an early lead when a corner kick set up a close-range shot that flew past Lady Vipers goalie Madison Daniel. Despite controlling the ball for most of the first half, it took a late score by sophomore Hailey Hoffmann from short range to even the score at 1-1 before the break.

Strong defense from Gabie Jones and Camille Carriere helped keep the Lady Rattlers at bay in the second half and again, Vandegrift controlled possession for most of the half. After several shots on goal, it was senior forward Paige Crossman who netted the winning goal, sailing a ball just past a diving Reagan keeper from 18 yards out.

The second round playoff game, Vandegrift vs. San Antonio Clark, is on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 p.m. The winner will face off later this week against the winner of the second-round game between San Antonio Johnson and Smithson Valley.

Two other 25-6A girls teams reached the second round also, with Westlake beating San Antonio Lee and Lake Travis downing San Antonio Churchill. Vista Ridge lost to Johnson last Thursday.
