The Vandegrift band and Vision Dance Company marched for more than three miles during its 10th annual March-A-Thon through the streets of Steiner Ranch on Saturday.
There were 13 customized lawn concerts for those who donated $150 or more to the band. A community concert at Westridge Park was enjoyed by hundreds.
“It’s a wonderful event that brings the community together and gets everyone’s Viper spirit going as we move into the new school year,” said Mike Howard, VHS director of bands.
More than 370 students and 75 parents marched in the event, which started and ended in John Simpson Park. A fire engine from Lake Travis Fire Rescue led the first portion of the event, and Travis County Sheriff’s Office escorted the band through the the entire route.
Pledges are still coming in but more than $3,000 was raised from spectators. Visit VHSBand.com to make a donation to the band to help with the expenses of the program.
