LISD makes national honor roll

STAFF REPORTS

Leander ISD is one of 373 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the Ninth Annual AP District Honor Roll. In order to receive the recognition, the district had to, since 2016, increase the number of students participating in AP while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.

In a release, the district said, “Reaching these goals shows that LISD is successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are ready for AP.”

“To be placed on the AP  Honor Roll for four consecutive years is a tremendous accomplishment,” Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell said. “I am incredibly proud of the teams at LISD responsible for leading the success of the AP Program, as well as our students who continue to show a high level of motivation and commitment to their learning.”

In 2018, more than 4,000 colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, or both, and/or consideration in the admissions process. Inclusion in the this year’s Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on a review of three years of AP data, from 2016 to 2018, looking across 38 AP Exams, including world language and culture.

Criteria for the recognition included increasing participation and access to AP by at least 4 percent in large districts, at least 6 percent in medium districts and at least 11 percent in small districts. Additionally, districts needed to maintain or increase the percentage of minority students scoring at least a 3 on one AP exam.

Districts also needed to maintain or improve the percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher compared to the 2016 exams, except for districts where at least 70 percent of its AP students earned a 3 or higher.
