LISD’s Troxell leaving to go to TX Assoc. School Boards

Dan Troxell, Leander ISD superintendent, announced his acceptance of a position as deputy executive director for the Texas Association of School Boards.

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees will discuss the hiring process for the next superintendent during their May 2 meeting. Troxell will continue to be the acting superintendent until the board establishes a hiring timeline. The board will move forward with pace and purpose to identify exceptional candidates for this top leadership position, board president Aaron Johnson said.

“I am a passionate advocate for Texas public schools,” Troxell said. “By accepting the deputy executive director position at TASB, I have the opportunity to impact students at a statewide level. It has been my honor to serve you as Leander ISD superintendent of schools. We have accomplished much together, and I am confident Leander ISD will remain a destination district with your continued dedication to the welfare of each and every child. I wish you all the best!”

During Troxell’s three years, Leander ISD students, schools and staff:

  • earned multiple state and national championships for student teams and programs;
  • launched a districtwide leadership development program for teachers and staff;
  • developed a Program Advisory Committee to review new and expanded programs for students;
  • passed a $454 million bond package to support 1,000 new students annually entering the district; and
  • created systems to utilize data for improving individual student academic performance.

“Dr. Troxell has had a significant impact for good in our district and has overseen a number of notable successes,” Johnson said. “We are grateful that he has worked so closely with our board to set a course for even greater successes in the future. It comes as no surprise that others have taken notice of our successes and progress under Dr. Troxell’s leadership. He will remain a welcome friend to Leander ISD.”

TASB is a nonprofit association based in Austin at 12007 Research Blvd. It was established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million public school students.

Before joining LISD, Troxell served at Kerrville ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Allen ISD, and Round Rock ISD. He has served on the TASB Risk Management Fund Board of Trustees since 2005, and in 2008, he was named Superintendent of the Year by TASB.

Troxell currently serves as a board member for the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce DTC70 Executive Committee, as a member of the UIL Legislative Council, and as chair of the UIL Standing Committee on Academics.
