Vandegrift ViperBots robotics teams did “really well” at the World Championships in Houston last month, according to Rad Allen, VHS computer science teacher and ViperBots advisor.

Previously, Hydra won the state championship in the FIRST Tech Challenge 5A-6A Division.

This year’s challenge took FTC teams on an exploratory mission of uncharted planets, and FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) teams ventured into deep space. Competing alliances tackled a series of challenges that put their STEM, collaboration and problem-solving skills to the test.

In addition to being part of the state championship alliance, Hydra won the Robot Innovation Award. In FRC competition, the ViperBots Valor team was recognized with the Entrepreneurship Award and was also part of the eight-place alliance.

Three Vandegrift teams advanced to World in the FTC level of competition April 17 – 20: Hydra, QuadX and Ouroboros. Three teams from Leander ISD also competed at World in the FRC level of competition – VHS’ Valor, Cedar Park’s Robolobos, Rouse’s R-Cubed. 6800 ViperBots Valor World Championships results: Galileo Semi Finals Alliance, Gracious Professionalism Award Winner 716
