Leander ISD graduated more than 2,500 students last weekend including 647 from the Vandegrift class of 2019.
“Is there a better time of year than graduation,” asked Dan Troxell, LISD superintendent. “I am truly inspired and honored to tell people that our current group of public school students – from kindergarten to this graduating class – is the finest collection of young people I have seen in my more than 30 years in education.”
The more than 2,500 graduating LISD seniors boast an impressive resume of academic achievement, including 22 National Merit Semi-Finalists, 75 National Merit Commended Students and 32 National Hispanic Scholars and Recognized Students. An astounding six students made a perfect score on their ACT exam and three students earned perfect SAT scores, according to LISD.
Vandegrift makes up a large portion of these academic high achievers. Here are class of 2019 Viper stats:
14 National Merit Finalists
43 National Commended Scholars
11 National Hispanic Scholars
4 candidates for the US Presidential Scholars Program
164 students who have been named an AP Scholar, Scholar with Honor, Scholar with Distinction, or a National AP Scholar
Leander ISD children are focused on leadership, kindness and community involvement, and they are engaged about issues that impact their future. This is a tribute to their families and community that instill these values in them, and we as a society will benefit, he added.
“We have no greater privilege than being entrusted with shaping the interests, minds and talents in each of our students,” Troxell said. “I know that each of my colleagues share in our community’s collective joy in watching the class of 2019 take the next step in their life’s journey.”

Vandegrift, always proud, [we] hold our heads up high,
always faithful, “Second to None.”
At the end of our journey a new one begins,
in our hearts we will always be one.
Walk on toward our hopes,
walk on toward our dreams,
though sometimes we’re on on our own.
Walk on, walk on with memories strong,
and we’ll never walk alone.
We’ll never walk alone.
