Dedicated, VHS dad dies unexpectedly

Shane Sabo, 46, died on June 16 unexpectedly. The Four Points resident was the father and biggest fan of Vandegrift rising senior and Viper defensive tackle Seth Sabo.

Four Points resident Shane Sabo died on June 16 at the age of 46, leaving behind his son who is a rising senior at Vandegrift.

His sister Sabrina Birge, who lives in Austin, said his death was unexpected. 

“Heart we believe He had complained about chest pains and indigestion for a week or so. He did not tell me or my mom,” Birge said.

She and her husband, Mike, “will be helping with Seth along with my mom, Emily Sabo, from here on out.”

Birge has been so thankful for the support from family, friends and community

“We especially want to thank police Officer Boyd and Officer Dale who showed up to help Seth, who hugged him, prayed with him and guided him that day until we could get there,” the obituary states. “To all our lifetime friends ‘the circle’ who rushed to our sides and prayed over Seth and Shane on (June 16) outside their home. To Coach Sanders who came to our home to visit with Seth.”  

Birge is also getting help and advice from Vandegrift administration and parents of Seth’s friends.

“We will make sure (Seth) continues in and graduates from Vandergrift,” she said.  

Looking beyond high school, the family created a GoFundMe page entitled “Seth Sabo College Fund” where 100% of the donations will go toward Seth’s college education. Shane’s dream was for his son to receive a college education.

Shane was a kind and gentle spirit. He loved all people, animals, a beautiful sunset, travel, driving cool cars, and most of all his son, Seth, who he had full custody of since he was 4. 

Shane Earl Sabo was born in Texarkana, Tex. on July 17, 1973 to his beloved mom Emily Marie Sabo and late Sheriff Earl Ray Sabo.

He loved long conversations and rides in the Falcon with his dad, “Earl the Pearl”, before his passing a decade ago.

Shane grew his company, Vital Security, through the years so he could have the opportunity to move to his favorite city, Austin. He always loved coming to Austin when his big sister moved here for college and he became an avid Longhorn fan.

Shane wanted Seth to grow up in Austin and they moved to the Four Points area when Seth was in middle school.

“There was nothing that Shane cherished more than watching Seth play football each week, he was so proud,”

His obituary stated “Shane went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ… he was taken from us way too soon, and while we grieve here, we know, without a doubt in today’s world, he is in a better place.” 

The family claims verses in Lamentations chapter 3 during this time of grief and loss. “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
