Multiple vehicles were involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of RM 620 and RM 2222 on Feb. 2 around 4:30 p.m.
An unconfirmed report from a person at the scene shared that police were chasing a vehicle which included an adult with a very small child. The driver ran the red light at the intersection and collided with several other vehicles.
The driver and passenger (both Vandegrift students) of a pickup truck that was hit in the wreck said that five vehicles were involved, and that it looked like the police were taking drugs out of the vehicle that was being chased after police apprehended a suspect.
One first responder was carrying the small child at the scene from the vehicle that was being chased.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene of the crash after getting the call just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. DPS is the lead agency of this incident.
“The crash is still under investigation,” said Deon Cockrell, DPS sergeant. The final report on what happened was not finished by presstime.
Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Travis Fire Rescue and Austin Fire Department were all assisting DPS on the scene.
