WCID 17 issues water boil notice except for Steiner Ranch, River Ridge, Travis View, Montview Acres/Harbor

NOTICE: BOIL WATER NOTICE STILL IN EFFECT: 2/18/21

Posted by Linda Sandlin on Thursday, February 18th, 2021

Out of an abundance of caution, and due to extremely cold temperatures, as well as ongoing power outages to critical infrastructure, customers in the Travis County WCID No.17 service area (other than Steiner Ranch, River Ridge, Travis View and Montview Acres/Harbor) may be experiencing a reduction or loss of water service. Full restoration of service is ongoing but unknown at this time.

A boil water notice is in effect for customers in the Travis County WCID No.17 service areas (with the exception of those in Steiner Ranch, River Ridge, Travis View, and Montview Acres/Harbor)  Please refer to WCID No. 17 ( www .wcid17.org) for boil water notice status updates.

BOIL WATER NOTICE:

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires that customers be notified using specific language that a notice to boil water has occurred. Please follow these State guidelines:

“Due to conditions which have occurred recently in the water system, the TCEQ requires Travis County WCID No. 17 to notify all affected customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers additional guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/emergency/drinking/drinking-water-advisories/boil-water-advisory.html) to boil water notice recipients regarding drinking water, food preparation, and handwashing.

EARLIER: 9:57 AM Feb. 17 from Jason Homan, General Manager Travis County Water District No.17:

“We issued the notice out of an abundance of caution because we have multiple areas south of Mansfield dam with low or no pressure for greater than 24 hours. We have not put any untreated water into the system, have not had any line breaks and have had no abnormal testing results –  but with pressure out that long to some neighborhoods I felt it was only prudent to issue the notice. We have been able to maintain pressure and supply throughout the Steiner Ranch neighborhood and that is why they were excluded from the Boil Water Notice.”

NOTICE: BOIL WATER NOTICE ISSUED FOR AFFECTED CUSTOMERS

The gray area of the map shows the general boundaries of the WCID 17 service area. The District also includes four defined areas, Steiner Ranch, Flintrock, Comanche Trail and Serene Hills, and serves two out of District areas, Apache Shores and River Ridge. All areas pay the same water rates, but the defined areas have additional tax rates, and out of District areas pay fees in lieu of taxes and fees for revenue bonds issued for their water improvements.
