Leander ISD suffered damages to schools throughout the district including significant damage to Steiner Ranch Elementary.
LISD shared with SRE parents on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
“After a tremendous effort by our maintenance crews, students will return to campus Monday, March 1,” the district shared. “When we return to campus, we anticipate making adjustments while parts of the campus continue to dry. Most of the impacted area is at the front of the school, the administrator’s offices, and the nurse’s clinic.”
The week started with a handful of other closed LISD schools with significant damage: Cox ES, Mason ES, Giddens ES, and Running Brushy MS.
“The closed LISD schools will be 100 percent virtual until each one can open,” said Matt Mitchell, spokesperson for LISD. “Obviously, those may be on different timetables depending on the needed repairs. Our focus is getting campuses ready for in-person learning as quickly as possible while keeping the safety of our teachers, students and staff as our top priority.”
For a period of time during the winter storm, 13 LISD schools were without running water including Vandegrift High School, Four Points Middle School, River Place Elementary and Grandview Hills Elementary. Canyon Ridge Middle School had some damage.
The district cancelled school from Feb. 15 until Feb. 23 to recover from the storm.
