The Vandegrift varsity boys lacrosse team played in the state tournament. The semifinals vs Austin High were on May 8 at Turner Stadium in Humble, Tex. The state championship vs Coppell was on May 9 at Turner Stadium in Humble, Tex.
The weekend before was the first two rounds at Dripping Springs HS.
“It was quite a playoff run for our team and there is a lot to be proud of from this group,” Luke Cometti, VHS lacrosse program director.
Cometti said the team had some ups and downs this season but really came together in the postseason and strung together three wins, including a 4-overtime, sudden death finish against Austin High in the semi-finals.
“It was a heartbreaking 1 goal loss in the State Championship to a very good Coppell team but the boys fought with everything they had,” Cometti said.
He added that another big highlight during the season was beating Lake Travis by 1 at their place to close out the regular season.
“They were ranked well ahead of us and it was the point where we started playing our best lacrosse and gave us momentum going into the state playoffs,” Cometti said. “Vandegrift lacrosse and the school was represented very well.”
