The Vandegrift UIL accounting team posted stellar results this year.
The team made up of Emily Luppino, Aidan Tran and Sydney Paul competed at the State Academic Meet on May 1.
“We finished 3rd in the state! Aidan Tran finished 5th overall individually,” said Candace Nassar, VHS teacher of accounting and finance and UIL accounting coach. “This is quite an accomplishment for the young students. I am really proud of them.”
Leading up to the state competition, the Vipers won region in mid April.
“We swept 1st – 3rd place at the district competition in March to get to the region competition,” Nassar said. “Not only did we win 1st place team at regions but, we finished 2-4 in the individual competition as well.”
This win gave VHS 40 points of the 133 that were earned by the school in the region academic competition. Then on Saturday, the team went to state.
This marks yet another year of Vandegrift’s accounting successes. VHS teams have won the district competition every year since 2015. Accounting students won region in 2016, tied for runner up in 2019 and won 1st place again this year. A VHS student also went to state in 2018 as the top individual finisher.
