The Vandegrift band and Vision Dance Co. are state bound with their 2021 field production “Juliet Letters.”
“I am so excited to announce that (the students) have advanced to the 2021 UIL State Marching Band Contest,” said Director Mike Howard. “The students placed 2nd overall, earning them the opportunity to represent Area H and Region 32 in the UIL State Marching Band Contest.”
The four state qualifying bands from Area H are:
Area Champion – Vista Ridge
2nd Place – Vandegrift
3rd Place – Westlake
4th Place – Lake Travis
This is the sixth consecutive advancement to the state marching contest for the Vandegrift program. Their preliminary performance is Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
In addition to state, the Vipers will compete in the Bands Of America Super Regional in San Antonio Nov. 5 – 6 also at the Alamodome.
Another accolade, the band recently won the Texas Marching Classic.
For the first time in program history, the VHS band and Vision Dance brought home the first place trophy at the Texas Marching Classic.
The contest took place on October 9 at Round Rock Independent School District’s Kelly Reeves Stadium. Twenty bands participated in the contest, including bands from San Antonio and Laredo.
In the finals round, Vandegrift’s 2021 field production “Juliet Letters” won first place with a score of 90.738 and also won the following captions: Percussion, Musical Performance, and General Effect.
“Congratulations to the students and volunteers on an outstanding day of performances at the Texas Marching Classic,” Howard said.
“Juliet Letters” features music from Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture”, “Kissing You” by Des’Ree, and “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri.
The VHS band also held its Community Night Performance on November 3 in gratitude to the Four Points area communities for their generous year-round support of the band program.
