All four Vandegrift concert bands earned Sweepstakes at the annual Texas Music Educators Association UIL Concert and Sightreading contest last month.
Concert Band 2, Concert Band 1, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Ensemble each received the Sweepstakes award, which means they earned a first division rating in both concert and sight reading portions of the contest.
“Another fantastic performance at UIL,” stated Mike Howard, VHS director of bands.
The UIL contest took place at Leander High School’s Performing Arts Center on April 20 and 21.
In addition, all bands received straight 1’s from all six judges. Immediately following the last contest sight-reading performance, the entire band headed south to Port Arkansas for their semi-annual spring beach trip.
The program’s Spring Concert takes place on May 16 at 7 p.m. at Riverbend Center for the Arts. The public is welcome to attend.
