The Vandegrift Viper band and Vision Dance Co. won gold at the 6A UIL State Marching Band contest last week.
“We are so proud of the Vandegrift band and Vision Dance Company,” said Katherine VanDoren, VHS director of bands. “We believe that competitive success is a byproduct of hard work, and these students have pushed themselves every day on the band field.”
The championships were held November 7 – 8 in San Antonio at the Alamodome.
There are 249 6A high schools in Texas and 165 advanced to finals from their UIL Area contests. The Viper band became the UIL Area H state qualifier at Judson HS in Converse on October 29.
Of the 14 high school 6A bands that advanced to the finals, VHS won.
VHS also came in 4th at the Bands of America Super Regional contest out of 84 bands. Prelims were held on November 4 and finals on November 5 at the San Antonio Alamodome.
“This has been a busy year with UIL State and Macy’s preparations, and the students have handled it all incredibly well,” VanDoren shared. “We are so thankful for our Viper community of support, and can’t wait to represent Viper nation in New York City next week!”
