The Vandegrift Vipers beat the Harlan Hawks to dvance in the playoffs to play Dripping Springs again this season on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Gupton Stadium.
Both the Vipers and Tigers have a 12-1 season with VHS losing its only game this season to Dripping Springs 23-20 at its home opener on August 26.
After that the Vipers went on to win 12 games in a row including last week’s 49-21 victory on November 25 at the Alamodome vs the Hawks of San Antonio.
“I wasn’t pleased with our start, but it was good to see our response to some real adversity,” said Drew Sanders, VHS head football coach. “The defense found a way to get a stop and the offense scored right before half to give us some momentum as we headed into halftime. We then came out and scored in three plays and then got an interception on the 1st play of defense and then we began playing the Vandegrift way.”
On defense, Alex Foster was a powerhouse making 10 tackles, Andrew Scott and Isaiah Thompson each had an interception.
Brayden Buchanan threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while Miles Coleman caught six passes for 98 yards and one touchdown and RayJean Middleton had one reception for 30 yards and one touchdown. Beck Ormond caught three passes for 40 yards and Jase Skoglund two passes for 21 yards.
Alex Witt rushed 136 yards and made four touchdowns and Reece Trevino rushed 10 yards.
“Great job by all three phases in the second half and found a way to win, 49-21 and scored 42 unanswered points,” Sanders said.
The winner of Friday’s game will play the winner of Katy and C.E. King, both Houston area schools likely on Saturday. TBD
