Two bodies of missing men were recovered from Lake Travis in June.

At 7:28 p.m. on June 11, Travis County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol deputies and other agencies responded to a 911 report that a male in his 20s had gone underwater and never resurfaced. The man – who was not from Austin but had been living here for the past several months – was reportedly last seen near Mansfield Dam Park attempting to swim across a nearby cove.

Rescue efforts switched to recovery at 7:57 p.m. that Sunday. The search resumed Monday morning at daylight, with Texas Parks and Wildlife assisting with sonar. A body was located before 8:30 a.m. on June 12 and the recovery was completed around noon. The body of a male matching the swimmer’s description was found at a depth of approximately 30 feet.

A few days earlier on June 7, TCSO Lake Patrol deputies and other agencies responded to a 911 report at 9:06 p.m. that a male in his 30s had gone underwater and never resurfaced. The man – who was from the Houston area – was a passenger on a party barge that was anchored near Starnes Island.

TCSO Lake Patrol, Jonestown PD and Jonestown Fire searched the area. The mission transitioned to recovery at approximately 10 p.m. and TCSO continued searching using sonar.

TCSO Lake Patrol Deputies started shoreline and surface searches at sunrise the next day on June 8. The body was found in 32 feet of water and recovered at 10:30 a.m.

According to TCSO, neither victims were wearing life jackets, which is the best way to ensure safety on any lake.
