Vandegrift wrestling brings home silver, 3rd, 5th place trophies
Vandegrift wrestling finished the best it ever has at the UIL state competition.
“Congratulations to the Vandegrift Viper wrestling team on their highest finish ever at the state wrestling meet, placing 4th out of 160+ 6A teams,” shared Paul Muck, head wrestling coach at VHS.
The Vipers wrestled on February 16 and 17 at the Berry Center northwest of Houston.
“The Vipers had qualified seven wrestlers and four of them placed in the top 6 (all state), also a school record,” Much shared.
State Runner-up: Jacob Henry – Senior (285lbs)
3rd Place: Derek Ruffin – Senior (120lbs), Charlie Trujillo – Sophomore (113lbs)
5th Place: Rowley Rebtoy – Senior (175lbs)
State Qualifiers: Brandon Runhaar – Senior (138lbs), Gabriel Eckert – Sophomore (144lbs), Adam Scott – Junior (190lbs)
