The River Place Rapids wrapped up an exciting season, beginning in late April and ending in mid June, which included a few changes to the league and a first-ever meet at the Olympic-sized Round Rock ISD Aquatic Center. Five swimmers placed in the top five in their respective age groups within the League including Lily Griego, Colton Zilli, Charlotte Strockis, JJ Griego and Holden Harkness – who placed first in his age division.
The 2024 roster consisted of 106 swimmers ranging from age five to 16, led by Head Coach Kyle Jeweek and Assistant Coach Lauren Mushtaler. The team is hosted by the River Place Country Club, which also holds Monday to Friday practices at its pool. The team competed in seven total meets this season.
The 2024 season included the first ever Champs Meet, hosted at one of the largest facilities attended by the Rapids, in which every swimmer could compete without prior qualification. At the Champs Meet, Harkness – one of the youngest Rapids swimmers – set a new record for the team by swimming fastest in the league’s 6 and under boys division.
Communications Chair Rebecca McCormick said this year’s coaches did an excellent job with the swimmers in teaching them proper technique. To foster a sense of community within and around the team, the directors focused on creating a fun environment for the swimmers. At the beginning of the season, an intramural meet featured games, food trucks and live music for the swimmers to enjoy themselves.
