Local boy’s photo represents the Down syndrome community in Times Square

Odin Schnizlein’s photo of throwing a pile of leaves and enjoying the Texas fall weather was chosen to represent the Down Syndrome Community in the annual National Down Syndrome Society video presentation in Times Square on September 7. The Schnizleins live in Steiner Ranch.

Odin Schnizlein of Steiner Ranch appeared in the bright lights of Times Square on September 7 as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society Times Square Video presentation.

“I learned recently that Odin’s photo was one of 500 selected out of 3,000 submissions to appear in a group video slideshow that will kick off NYC’s Buddy Walk,” shared Odin’s mom Stephanie Schnizlein.

Odin turned 6-years-old in August and started kindergarten at River Ridge Elementary.

Odin’s photo was selected from nearly 3,000 entries in the NDSS worldwide call for photos. His photo was shown on two jumbotron screens thanks to the support of ClearChannel Outdoor. The presentation was live streamed on the NDSS Facebook page from 9:30-10:30 am ET on September 7.

The one-hour video of 500+ photographs includes children, teens and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 states and 14 different countries. These collective images highlight individuals with Down syndrome in the most visible way on two screens in the heart of Times Square.

The Times Square Video presentation kicks off the New York City Buddy Walk which takes place at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The flagship Buddy Walk has taken place in New York City since 1995.  Over 150 Buddy Walk events are held in communities across the country.
