On December 4, following Vandegrift’s big regional win over the Cibolo Steele Knights in the UIL 6A Texas State tournament, football Head Coach Drew Sanders and team captains presented the VHS band and Vision Dance Company drum majors and captains with a game ball signed by the football team.
Coach Sanders highlighted, “Friday Night Lights is a team event at Vandegrift. “Every football game is a special experience for each member of our Viper Nation because of the collaboration and support between our football team and our band. Every player and coach will attest to the fact that when the Viper band and Vision Company are in the stands, it gives all of us a tremendous boost.” Sanders shared, “They put the light in ‘Friday Night Lights’…no question! They earned this game ball!”
“We are so proud to support our team every week and grateful to be a part of an organization as incredible as the Vandegrift football program. The Viper band and Vision members bring that extra energy that we know can lift the players during games when they need it most,” said Vandy Band Director, Jarrett Lipman. “Coach Drew Sanders goes out of his way to let us know how valued and appreciated we are, and the young men show their gratitude every week when they celebrate with us at the end of the games. The football captains presenting band and Vision with a ball this season was a highlight for all of us. We look forward to being by their side at state next week.”
The Viper football team defeated Humble Summer Creek 34-31 in the tremendous semi-final game December 14 in Waco. Vandegrift football will face Southlake Carroll for the 6A Division 2 title on Saturday, December 21 in Arlington. The VHS Band and Vision Dance Company will travel north and illuminate AT&T Stadium with another stunning performance while setting the ambient bar high against their own perennial Texas rivals, the Southlake Carroll Marching Band. Game kickoff is at 3 p.m, CST.
