The Austin Mayor Kirk Watson signed a proclamation declaring February 1 Vandergrift Viper Football Day. The honor was read at the pep rally on February 1 at Towne Square which was preceded by the VHS state championship parade in Steiner Ranch. The victory 24-17 win over Southlake Carroll HS on December 21 at AT&T Stadium was the first 6A State Football Championship for any Leander ISD school or any high school located within the City of Austin.

Miles Teodecki was named the Offensive MVP of the game  with two passing TDs and nearly 250 passing yards and Scott Buchanan for being named the Defensive MVP with seven tackles, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

Be it known that

Wheras,

The Vandegrift High School Football team has exemplified the program values of Discipline, Effort, Toughness, and Honor since its founding in 2009; and

Whereas,

The Vandegrift High School Football team has held itself to the highest standards year after year – holding true to the school motto “Second to None” – in honor of the slogan of school namesake Matthew Vandegrift’s Marine Corps unit; and

Whereas,

The Vandegrift High School Football team has won eight UIL district championships (outright or shared) since 2014, including seven in a row.

Whereas,

Head Coach Drew Sanders and The Vandegrift High School Football team have won One hundred and twenty-one varsity games in the last eleven years, and

Whereas,

The Vandegrift High School Football Team’s 2024 season not only concluded with a 15-1 record and the outright undefeated UIL District 25-6A District Championship, but with winning the Texas State 6AD2 State Championship vs. Southlake Carroll HS in a nationally televised contest at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – marking the first 6A State Football Championship for any Leander ISD high school or any high school located within the City of Austin.
