Though rain clouds hovered ominously, not one drop fell onto the crowd of more than 400 runners, local business members and community organization participants who turned out for the 17th annual Run the Ranch 5K & Kids Fun Run. Held March 8 in Steiner Ranch, the event was a huge success, with net proceeds totaling more than $17,000. Run the Ranch is organized by the volunteer-run Hill Country Special Needs Alliance, allowing proceeds to go directly to local families in need.

“We’re thrilled with the level of support we received from the community,” said Kara Crawford-Norton, president of HCSNA. “We’ll be able to grant more funds to help more families offset the hefty costs associated with critical therapies needed for their children.” Crawford-Norton added that many therapies and equipment needed for children with special needs are not covered by insurance.

Steiner resident and 2025 participant Melissa Hunter is already looking forward to next year.

“Our family has participated in Run the Ranch for many years,” said Hunter. “Early on, I was the crazy lady pushing our double stroller through the course and now our kids leave me and my husband in the dust.” Hunter continued, “The event provides a great opportunity for us to get outside with our neighbors in our beautiful community, break a sweat and raise money for Hill Country Special Needs Alliance.”
