2018 Vandegrift “senior walks” inspire young students

Vandegrift graduation took place Friday night with approximately 550 seniors at the H-E-B Center. Prior to commencement ceremonies, many members of the class of 2018 participated in “senior walks”, where they walked through the halls of the local elementary and middle schools they attended.

“I think it’s really for closure and also I’m always amazed how excited everyone is to see where the students are going,” VHS college and career transition coordinator Sarah Spradling said. “I think the seniors have been working so hard and from my perspective, the celebration is so fast at the end. So I think we need to draw out that celebration so it will be really nice and fulfilling for students.”

4 local schools named to national honor roll

Right: Vandegrift received this national distinction because of its incredible staff and hard working students, as evident at this year’s awards ceremony. A remarkable six Leander ISD schools — including four in the Four Points area — have been named to the 2017–2018 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll.

Laura Welch Bush, River Ridge and Rutledge elementary schools, Canyon Ridge and Stiles middle schools, and Vandegrift High School were recognized as leaders in student achievement.

Outstanding students recognize educators at LEEF’s STAR

The Student Teacher Academic Recognition banquet recognizes outstanding seniors from each of Leander ISD’s high schools and gives them the opportunity to recognize the teacher or school staffer who most influential in their academic careers.

The LEEF STAR banquet was held April 24 at the Austin Baptist Church honoring 27 LISD seniors and educators, including 10 at Vandegrift.
