Charter bus driver uses cell phone on I-35 while driving LISD students

This bus driver is caught on video using a cell phone while driving Stiles MS band students on I-35. Leander ISD is investigating.

Leander ISD is investigating a charter bus driver who was caught on video using a cell phone while driving on I-35 with a bus full of Stiles Middle School band students who were heading to Schlitterbahn water park on May 18.

“The video of a charter bus driver transporting Stiles Middle School Band students while handling his phone last weekend was concerning,” Corey Ryan, LISD’s chief communications officer, said in a statement.

Travis County partners with state, local agencies to find male, female

Over the past several weeks, multiple state and local agencies have been searching the Lake Travis waters for two missing swimmers from separate incidents.

“Lake Travis is an absolutely gorgeous asset that our county has. But it is a body of water that needs to be taken seriously, and that’s something we’ve seen evidence of already this year,” said Kristen Dark, senior public information officer with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. TCSO held a news briefing on May 22.

HP students feed homeless, hear their stories

On a recent rainy Saturday morning, 14 volunteers set out to feed Austin homeless people a hot meal and to hear their stories.

     The volunteers included eight Hyde Park High School students — Ella, Ben, Jack Fischer, Jack Waugh, Ted Waugh, Quenten Schulze, Jackson Bauch and Amelia McConico — who formed a Mobile Loaves & Fishes leadership group to help bring awareness of homelessness in Austin.

Rattlesnakes & rat snakes are roaming

With the warm weather this spring, snake sightings are frequent in the Four Points area including venomous types such as the rattlesnake and non-venomous ones, like the rat snake.

Steiner Ranch resident Carl Schuler and his dog encountered a rattlesnake recently, the first time in their two years of hiking on the Serrulata trail. Despite becoming separated by the snake, both him and his dog were able to reunite unharmed.

Another local hiker, Kirsten Saharek, states that she also encountered one during a dog walk recently.
