The Vandegrift varsity volleyball team pulled out a thrilling victory against Vista Ridge on Friday night at home putting the Lady Vipers in a three-way tie in district standings with VRHS and Round Rock. The team is 7-2 in district while VRHS and RRHS are 8-2, since VHS had a first-round bye.

Viper “Pink Out” helps in fight against breast cancer

The Vandegrift community showed school spirit with a cause at the 2018 “Pink Out” on Friday night at VHS. The Vipers came up with the wins in both the varsity volleyball and football games versus Vista Ridge HS and stands were filled with enthusiastic fans wearing pink, the signature color of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Funds were raised for research by the American Cancer Society. Student fans in many organizations including volleyball, football, cheer, dance and athletic training all wore the signature pink color in support of the cause.

5-0 Vandegrift beats Vista at home

The Vandegrift Viper football team beat Vista Ridge 36-7 at home on Sept. 28 and are undefeated so far this season.

The Vandegrift Viper football team beat Vista Ridge 36-7 at home on Friday to go 5-0 overall and 3-0 in district standings.

“It’s hard to come out and limit somebody to one touchdown in a 6A football game,” said Drew Sanders, VHS head football coach. “We’re proud of our guys, they had a great game. They came out and did exactly what we wanted them to do.”

LISD buses to get A/C by summer

After hearing stories from concerned parents about excessive heat on school buses and heat-exhausted children coming home after school, the Leander ISD board took action on Thursday and voted to put air conditioning into its entire bus fleet by summer.

At the Sept. 20 meeting, the board of trustees approved an $8.1 million plan to expedite the purchase of 50 new buses and the retrofit of 60 existing buses. All 126 route buses for general education students will have air conditioning by summer 2019.

The board funded the initiative through 2017 bond money which was approved by voters last fall to cover 66 new buses – 16 bond-funded replacement buses the district recently ordered and 50 new bond-funded replacement buses to be ordered – and retrofit 60 current buses.
