Steiner Cleaners hit again on Labor Day

Karl Schulte gets a phone call this morning before 7 a.m. His employee at Steiner Cleaners was pulling into a parking spot in front of the store and in her headlights saw a burglar rushing away in a gray/blue SUV.
The burglar smashed the front door — like what happened just eight days earlier — and drove a mid-sized Chevrolet, like an Equinox, which was an older model, maybe six years old or so, Schulte said.
They drove out of the Steiner Ranch shopping center taking the road next to Lakeside Pizza & Grill. In the process of leaving the center, they did not have their headlights on and nearly ran into a Lake Travis Fire Rescue firefighter, who was jogging. He confirmed the make and model of the vehicle, Schulte said.
“It’s aggravating at this point,” said Schulte, who lives in River Place. “They didn’t get anything. We moved things around.”
The attempted burglary happened around 6:45 a.m. on Labor Day Sept. 3. By 9 a.m. the door was replaced and again the cost, like last time, was around $650. Continue reading

As soon as the final whistle blew Friday night at Gupton Stadium, the far wall of white made up of Vandegrift players, students and fans exploded.
The Vipers beat Leander ISD rival Cedar Park 29-13 for the second time in the nine-year history of the rivalry. Vandegrift last beat the Timberwolves in 2014, the last time Cedar Park lost a regular season game.
“They talk a lot about Black Rain, but I’m very impressed with the Vandegrift defense tonight,” Vandegrift head coach Drew Sanders said. “Our defense showed up to play. We’ve got a fantastic defensive line and we’ve got six guys that can play at a high level and we rotated them all night. We didn’t get tired.”
Vandegrift swim & dive hosts Black vs Silver
The Vandegrift swim and dive team hosted its annual Black vs Silver event in Steiner Ranch on Friday with its team of 43 swimmers and one diver.
Teammates were pitted against each other during the event, which was held at John Simpson Park pool on Aug. 24.
“The silver team took an early lead with a double win in the belly flop contest,” said Genevieve Walsh, head swim and dive coach. “It was a close meet but the black team pulled ahead after the 100 free and remained in the lead for the rest of the meet.”

Vandegrift takes the idea very seriously that football is about more than just what happens on the field.
The Vipers held their seventh annual senior/dad campout on the afternoon of Aug. 18 at the Brigham Double Horn Ranch just south of Marble Falls to grow off-field connections of senior players and the men they cherish most.
