TxDOT hosts RM 620/RM 2222 community meeting Thurs. at Vandegrift

The environmental assessment is the remaining requirement for the $18 million RM 620/RM 2222 bypass road improvement project to go forward. Part of the environmental assessment is a public hearing and the Texas Department of Transportation is conducting a public hearing on Thursday, Oct. 26 at Vandegrift.

The community meeting will begin with an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 9500 McNeil Dr. 78750. During this time, the public will be able to review available project information and exhibits, discuss the project with project staff, and ask questions. Brown looks to shine in second season at Vandegrift

Vandegrift forward Greg Brown III had a stellar freshman season for the Vipers last year, and as a result, he was the fifth-ranked player in the Class of 2020 in ESPN’s first class rankings in early August.

“I’m going to work hard to help prove that I deserve a higher ranking,” Brown said.

Brown, standing 6’7”, averaged 17.2 points and 10.7 rebounds per game in his freshman season. His freshman season was impressive enough to earn him a spot at the 2017 USA Men’s U16 National Team training camp. Continue reading →

Viper entrepreneurs create Thursty Pool Care

Cory Thurston and Austin Stelling — two young entrepreneurs who graduated from Vandegrift — started a pool maintenance company called Thrusty Pool Care.

The team are currently both attending Texas State University and successfully balance their business and school, working primarily out of the Four Points area and also include Westlake and Lakeway. They provide routine maintenance for customer’s pools, as well as taking care of the repairs on equipment.

“After brainstorming many ideas, we decided the pool industry was the right fit for us,” Thurston said.   Continue reading →

Many families enjoyed the 8th Annual Steiner Ranch Pumpkin Patch on Sunday at John Simpson Park.

Hundreds of pumpkins served as the backdrop for many photo shoots. Also pumpkins of all sizes were sold with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Dell Children’s Medical Center Foundation.

Hand to Hold’s impact on one local family

Jocelyn and Bradley Brandt are helping organize the Hand to Hold’s 4th annual Baby Shower event on Friday because it is the organization that helped them in their family’s time of need.

The Brandt’s son Jason was born on March 15, 2015, at 26 weeks and 1 day, weighing just 1 lb 10 oz. The Brandts visited the neonatal intensive care unit  twice a day for 111 days at St. David’s HealthCare while their baby was hooded up to ventilators and more for the breathing challenges he faced. When baby Jason got to go to his home in Steiner Ranch, he continued to struggle with feeding issues; feeding therapy was needed to strengthen his oral muscles. Continue reading →
