Vandegrift cheerleaders, under the direction of head coach Brianna Roughton and coach Rachel Hoyle, came home with several team and individual awards from the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) camp held Aug. 4-7 in Galveston, Tex.
The Vandegrift Cheer program received the prestigious Herkie Award, voted on by the NCA staff and given to the top all-around program at camp that exemplifies unity, spirit and leadership. Approximately 30 other cheer teams comprised of over 600 cheerleaders from throughout the state competed at the camp.
With Council Members Alison Alter and Leslie Pool opposed, a developer’s plan to rezone a 42-acre tract at the end of River Place’s Milky Way Drive that would pave the way for 134 townhouse and condominium residences passed first muster by Austin City Council on Aug. 8.
At issue is the project’s density and fit for the community.
Road improvements estimated to cost $500 million are coming to RM 620 North from the bridge near Mansfield Dam to US 183 to increase mobility. The details are still being worked out but the Texas Department of Transportation is working on adding lanes and raised medians as well as flyovers at some intersections on RM 620.
Long term ideas at this point call for a flyover intersection at RM 620 and RM 2222, Bruce Byron, TxDOT spokesperson, said at last week’s Steiner Ranch Neighborhood Association meeting.
