Steiner teen suffers head, neck injuries after mountain bike crash

Antoinette McCall, 16, on a ride on her mountain bike. On Nov. 20, she tumbled off her bike, hitting her head on a rock and smashing her helmet. As of Sunday night, she was still hospitalized with head and neck injuries.

Antoinette McCall, 16, had a bike accident while on a training ride with two teammates on the Steiner Ranch trails on Tuesday, Nov. 20. She was going an estimated 8 miles an hour when she crashed, hitting her head on the rocky ground, and her helmet — which saved her head from more severe injury — shattered.  

“They were into their descent of Stampede Hill when Antoinette’s bike slipped out, we are not sure if it was loose rock that caused fall or possibly her wheel caught in a new rut caused by recent rains and overgrown grass,” said Rebekah Trevelise, McCall’s mom.

Her bike slipped out from underneath her, sending her body down on the right side of her bike.

WALLER — Trey Mongauzy wasn’t going to drop the ball a second time.

The Vandegrift receiver couldn’t come down with a pass to the end zone in the first overtime, but more than made up for it with a leaping grab in double overtime to give Vandegrift a 28-21 win over Klein Collins Friday, Nov. 23.

11-0 Viper football continues in playoffs

Vandegrift’s best all-around performance of the season ended in a 35-14 victory over Tomball Memorial on Friday night, sending the Vipers to a second-round matchup with Klein Collins on Friday, Nov. 23.

The Vipers (11-0) broke big plays in the passing game and the running game, with quarterback Drew Dawson going 15-of-20 for 277 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for the game’s first score.

“(Dru) threw the ball well, he escaped pressure, he used his legs when he needed to,” said Sanders.

The Steiner Ranch HOA Event Planning Committee invites residents, their friends, and family t

Students at Grandview Hills Elementary participated in a Turkey Trot earlier this month where each student ran around the perimeter of the school, about a 1 mile course. Students finishing in the top three of their age bracket each received a medal to recognize their accomplishment. Following the Nov. 1 race, GHE students participated in other field day activities including jump rope, hula hoop, tug of war and basketball games. Continue reading →
