Three break-ins on Steiner businesses on Sunday morning

Cups & Cones shattered glass door after break-in.

The investigation is underway to capture the burglar who broke into three Steiner Ranch businesses — Cup & Cones, Steiner Cleaners and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt — around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Rick Nordin pulled into Cups & Cones’ side entrance, like he usually does, and was heading into the shop with his arms full around 5 a.m. on Aug. 26. That’s when he looked up and saw the shattered glass door.

Nordin soon realized that the register was gone and more than $700 in cash was taken.

“I just missed the guy,” said Nordin, a River Place resident who owns Cups & Cones with his wife Kristi.

LISD earns overall “B” in TEA ratings, LWBE, GHE, VHS earn Distinction Designations

Leander ISD was among five area school districts to receive an overall ‘B’ grade in the first-ever Texas State Accountability Ratings released last week by the Texas Education Agency.

The TEA website established for parents to view schools’ performance reports Leander ISD’s overall score as an 89, with the district earning a numeric score of 93 for ‘Student Achievement,’ a score of 87 for ‘School Progress,’ and an 89 for ‘Closing the Gaps.’

However, Leander ISD officials say the district’s actual score was a 95, but because TEA rules prevent a district with a campus listed as ‘Improvement Required’ from earning an ‘A’ rating, the district is reported as having a ‘B.’

Let the 2018-2019 school year begin!

first day at Four Points Middle School. And how was navigating campus with a wheelchair? “It was interesting,” said Able with a laugh.

More than 7,700 local Leander ISD students started the 2018-2019 school year on Aug. 16 with hopes and anticipation of accomplishing great things.
