Austin City Council passes Milestone’s first reading, Lack of two accesses halts full dais support

District 10 Austin City Council Member Alison Alter was a “no” vote on Aug. 8 when the dais considered its first hearing of a request by Milestone Community Builders to rezone a 42-acre tract at the end of Milky Way Drive to SF-6-CO, allowing the construction of 134 new townhomes and condominiums. With Council Members Alison Alter and Leslie Pool opposed, a developer’s plan to rezone a 42-acre tract at the end of River Place’s Milky Way Drive that would pave the way for 134 townhouse and condominium residences passed first muster by Austin City Council on Aug. 8. 

At issue is the project’s density and fit for the community.

TxDOT says: More lanes coming to RM 620 N.

Road improvements estimated to cost $500 million are coming to RM 620 North from the bridge near Mansfield Dam to US 183 to increase mobility. The details are still being worked out but the Texas Department of Transportation is working on adding lanes and raised medians as well as flyovers at some intersections on RM 620. 

Long term ideas at this point call for a flyover intersection at RM 620 and RM 2222, Bruce Byron, TxDOT spokesperson, said at last week’s  Steiner Ranch Neighborhood Association meeting.

New school year begins with first Viper IB class to graduate

As school begins on Thursday, a handful of Vandegrift seniors will begin their final year in the International Baccalaureate program, making the first Viper IB graduating class next spring.

“We have all IB juniors returning as seniors this year and we have added over 50 more students to this year’s IB Programme,” said Debbie Quick, IB coordinator at Vandegrift. “We have 110 students total.”

VHS campus is now more secure with new vestibule, Estimated $20 million expansion to be done fall 2020

Just in time for the 2019-2020 school year to begin on Thursday, Vandegrift has a newly implemented security vestibule at the main entrance of the school. 

Construction is also underway to add some 60,000-square-feet which will benefit robotics, STEM, and vet tech classes to name a few.
