Paddle & Surf Jam raises nearly $25,000 for first responders

The 6th annual Get Out Girl Surf & Paddle Jam was last weekend on Lake Austin and approximately 150 women participating in the wake surf and paddle events. Spanning two days, the event raised nearly $25,000 for female first responder mental wellness.
Vandegrift defense stands tall to help Vipers beat Round Rock

Even if the first three games of Vandegrift’s District 13-6A schedule were very different in how they transpired, the result has been the same.
The Vipers held off a hard-charging Round Rock offense on Friday night, beating the Dragons 32-25 at Monroe Stadium to stay undefeated. Their last regular-season loss was nearly 700 days ago.

Why, Council Member Flannigan, why are you knowingly placing River Place residents at risk
Editor’s note: Randall Jamieson, River Place Firewise Coordinator, sent the following letter on Oct. 3 to Jimmy Flannigan, District 6 city council member, Mayor Steve Adler and Alison Atler, District 10 council member. This involves the proposed Milestone Community Builders project at the end of Milky Way Drive. No vote was taken at the Oct. 3 meeting and council members continues to work on understanding the rules and laws as it applies to this case.
Dear Council Member Flannigan,
As someone who has spent much of my career working in the field of safety and has worked closely with the remarkable men and women at the Austin Fire Department (AFD), including the AFD Wildfire Division, to keep River Place and surrounding Travis County communities safe from the very real threat of wildfire, I feel compelled to write this open letter to ask why you are putting the interests of outside developers above the safety of your constituents residing in River Place?

After threats, gestures man detained in front of SRE

Travis County Sheriff’s Office detained a man who was making verbal threats and making gestures toward students at Steiner Ranch Elementary around dismissal time in the early afternoon on Oct. 1.
SRE Principal Angela Hodges and Leander ISD sent out an email to parents stating: “… a man in front of the school began making verbal threats and inappropriate gestures toward students, including ‘shooting’ hand signs.”
