A local couple recounts their harrowing experience of being part of a DWI hit-and-run accident on RM 620 near Mansfield Dam that minutes later resulted in another crash with a vehicle driven by a young driver at the intersection of RM 620 and Steiner Ranch Boulevard.

On the evening of Thursday, June 20, Margarito Sifuentes was driving a pickup at a reported high rate of speed on RM 620 with a passenger. After he hit a minivan, Sifuentes crashed into a second vehicle and then the silver Ford he was driving came to a stop. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office was at the scene within minutes and Sifuentes was arrested and transported to an area hospital to be treated. Sifuentes was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.

Local child drowning stats on the rise

ARC shares four rules of the water

These tragedies occur more often during summer months, when bathing suits become uniforms. While pool time equals fun time in every young child’s mind, it is also when parents need to be extra vigilant.

Pole vaulter gains strength as only VHS girl wrestler

By DELILAH WOODS , Vandegrift Voice

She clearly remembers walking into the large gym that smelled of metallic weights and sweat. The lump in her throat grew as her nerves kicked in, but not because of the gym’s aroma. She was the only girl in a gym full of male wrestlers.

Ina Edstrom’s drive to better herself led to her joining the all-male wrestling team this past school year. The recent Vandegrift graduate’s efforts paid off as she will go on to represent the University of South Alabama in pole vaulting in the weeks ahead.
