VHS band delivers 32,676 bags of mulch

Hundreds of parents, Vandegrift band students and staff delivered 32,676 bags of mulch on April 6 and 7. This was the 7th consecutive year of selling and delivering mulch as a fundraiser, by the VHS band and Vision Dance Co.

When the tradition started in spring of 2012, less than 10,000 bags were sold. This year, students sold a record amount equating to 1.4 million pounds of mulch and $156,000 in sales. Seventy to 80 percent of customers are repeat customers.   Continue reading

LISD touts many academic successes

Leander ISD is above average in student test scores and has gained national academic attention as the district with 39,000 students continues to grow.   

“One of the reasons the district is so strong is success academically,” said Superintendent Dan Troxell at the annual State of the District presentation on March 21.

Q&A Voting underway for Steiner Master Association board, early voting ends Friday

Voting is underway for the Steiner Ranch Master Association Board of Directors election where seven residents are candidates for four board positions.

Three races have an incumbent and a challenger. The at-large race has incumbent Robby Roberts facing Richard Clark. District 2 has incumbent David Doman facing Brad Stanton. District 3 has incumbent Naren Chilukuri facing Adam Mehevec. The District 4 race is uncontested and Christina Morales is running for that vacant seat.

Storage units proposed at 2222/City Park

Neighbors support one Champion rezoning

City Council approved a zoning change for a second Champion tract a couple of weeks ago, but this time the developer had support from several neighborhoods who had opposed a zoning change earlier this year.

With Council Member Alison Alter dissenting, Council approved the change on first reading that will allow Endeavor Real Estate Group to build public storage units on the property at 6500 RM 2222. Neither Council Member Ellen Troxclair nor Council Member Leslie Pool were on the dais for this vote.

A number of neighbors, including Carol Lee, who was a staunch opponent of rezoning on an earlier Champion case, supported the change from Neighborhood Commercial (LR) to General Commercial Services (CS) with a conditional overlay that only allows public storage on the property.
