Friends bake & share Christmas cookies with those in need

Abby Zelinski, with the help of her mom and friends, baked, decorated and delivered 200 cookies last weekend to people in need. Friends who helped include: Emma Robinson, Kaia Haley, Sami Whitcomb, Katie Tan, Jordan Warren, Gwynna Simmons, Charlotte Gardner, Pauline Pons, Kylie Goelkel, Addison Goelkel, Reagan Mckinley, Emily Holick and Elle Hodges.

Abby Zelinski,11, and her friends have been making homemade, decorated Christmas cookies to give to homeless people for the past six years. This year was a little different because they handed out the cookies themselves.

A dozen friends baked and decorated some 200 cookies at the Zelinski’s home in River Place on Saturday. They delivered them the next day, Dec. 8, under I-35 between 7th Street and 8th Street.

Bamboo Boxes foster creativity month after month

620/2222 road improvements to be finished spring 2021, Connector road to alleviate 50,000 vehicles daily at intersection

Texas Department of Transportation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the bypass road which will connect RM 620 with RM 2222 by going along the power lines behind the officials with shovels. Brian Thompto, chairman of the Steiner Ranch Neighborhood Association, and Morgan Briscoe, West Austin Chamber of Commerce president, were among TxDOT and the city of Austin officials at the event on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Local teen duo performs at the White House

Vandegrift sophomores Joey Painter and Anna Zavelson of the minor Keys group performed at the White House on Dec. 3.

The minor Keys, a music duo from the Four Points area, was selected to play a two-hour set at the White House on Dec. 3.  

Joey Painter, piano, and Anna Zavelson, vocals, are both sophomores at Vandegrift High School. Anna and her parents, Tracy and David Zavelson, live in Grandview Hills. Joey and his parents, Melinda and Jay Painter, in River Place.
