Viper baseball working to “Cover the Cage”

By MADISON PHARIS, Four Points News

The Vandegrift Baseball Booster Club is raising money to get their batting cages at the Venom Field covered to allow practice despite the weather.

Baseball season runs from February through May and it’s during these months that Four Points sees its wettest months. As it is set up now, Vipers are unable to practice during the rain and lose out on valuable time. VHS looks to bring back homecoming dance

The Vandegrift choir was part of the Viper 2018 Homecoming celebration. They sang “God Bless America” before the football game kickoff .

Parents share feedback on student event

On Friday, Four Points News asked for community feedback on the lack of an organized Vandegrift homecoming event for students after the game to cap off the exciting week of celebration. Momentum builds all week with the parade, pep rally, fireworks, voting on the homecoming court and mums but then after the game, that’s it.

There used to be a dance and there has been a courtyard party on campus with food. This year the post-game event was cancelled because of several factors including competition with ACL weekend 2.

Next year, plans are already in the works for an event, and likely an off campus dance on Saturday. VHS principal Charlie Little has been working with other key staff on picking the best date for VHS Homecoming 2019. He says there are a lot of things to consider and avoid when picking but he is committed to making something work.

Vandegrift Viper football continues to be undefeated with a decisive 42-14 win over McNeil on homecoming, Oct. 12. VHS goes 7-0 overall and 5-0 in District 13-6A.

The team had to settle into the game a bit before it started putting up points. Isaiah Smallwood ran the first two touchdowns in later in the first quarter and then into the second quarter. Smallwood rushed for 76 yards during the game.

“They (McNeil) just beat Westwood, they’re a quality team,” Sanders said. “They did some new things we hadn’t seen and we had to adjust to that.”
