Sets her sights on Four Points area to market new business center

With a background in investment banking, corporate finance as well as co-founding a successful real estate development company, Steiner Ranch-resident Karen Spindler made local history as the first director of the Concordia University Texas Incubator for Innovation and Impact.

“I am an entrepreneur,” Spindler said. “I invest in other entrepreneurs. I love to be part of that ecosystem to help people with their businesses, to help them realize their dreams.”

She assumed her position at the top of the program situated on the Four Points campus of Concordia, 11400 Concordia University Drive, Oct. 2 and said she has spent the past month meeting people in the school “and mak(ing) the incubator more visible to people, internally and externally.”

Cardinal Point opens in Four Points


First affordable housing in area

The Cardinal Points affordable housing apartment complex, located at the corner of Four Points Drive and River Place Boulevard, started accepting rental applications Oct. 16 for move ins starting next month.

The complex was built by Foundation Communities, an Austin non-profit dedicated to creating housing and education opportunities for lower income families and individuals.

VHS band, Vision, choir earn 3rd in Bands of America Super Regional

Vandegrift band, Vision Dance Co. and choir earn 3rd in Bands of America Super Regional on Saturday. Receiving the trophy are (L-R) drum major Carson Broe, drum major Rehaan Adhikary, Vision leader Tanis Sommer, drum major Zach MacDonald and drum major Will Bryan.

The Vandegrift band and Vision Dance Company along with members of the Viper choir performed their marching show “Symphony in Silence” for the final time Saturday at the Alamodome among the best bands in Texas and the nation.

That outstanding performance earned them 3rd place overall in the Bands of America Super Regional San Antonio competition, a competition considered one of the toughest in the nation of all high school marching band contests this year.

Voters OK $454.4 million Leander ISD bond

Editor’s note: at the time of publication, all 58 precincts in Williamson County had reported election results, and 76 of 150 in Travis County had been reported.

Voters approved a $454.4 million bond package on Election Day, which will allow Leander ISD to address the rapid district growth, safety and facility improvements throughout the district. Continue reading

VHS cross country goes to state

Vandegrift boys cross country runners start the race at the Region IV 6A Championships in Corpus Christi on Oct. 23.

The Vandegrift girls cross country team will advance to the state meet on Saturday, Nov. 4. Anthony Monte will be representing the boys team as an individual as he placed 17th.

Both girls and boys teams traveled to Corpus Christi to compete in the Region IV 6A Cross Country Championships on Oct. 23.
