VHS volleyball ends season as regional quarter finalist

After Monday’s close, 3-2 loss to the Woodlands, the Vandegrift Lady Viper volleyball team ends its season by making school history by going deeper into the playoffs than any other VHS 6A volleyball team. 

“We ended our season with the strongest ever playoff run for VHS volleyball in 6A, finishing Regional Quarter Finalist,” said Melissa Southall, head volleyball coach.   

Annie Stadthaus had a commanding game with 28 kills and Delaney Dilfer led the team in assists on Nov. 11 at Bryan High School.

Local schools recognize U.S. Veterans

Veterans Day on Monday marked the 101st anniversary of the end of World War I.

Originally known as Armistice Day, it is a day the nation remembers what brave soldiers, airmen, sailors and coast guardsmen have gone through to keep the U.S.  safe. Whether it is fighting the forces of evil or providing humanitarian aid after a disaster, the U.S. Armed Forces are what have made America so great.

VHS senior Monte finishes second at state cross country meet

Anthony Monte was feeling under the weather in each of his last two trips to the state cross country meet. 

Last Saturday, he was feeling fine and running fast. 

The Vandegrift senior set a new personal and school record in his third and final state cross country meet on Nov. 9 in the afternoon at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, finishing second in the state with a time of 14:39.59.

Dawson, Vandegrift rally in fourth quarter to beat Bridgeland in bi-district round

Even if the Vandegrift sideline was feeling uneasy after three quarters on Friday night, head coach Drew Sanders never lost faith.

The Vipers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and rallied to beat Bridgeland 14-13 at Monroe Stadium in the bi-district round of the playoffs, their eighth straight win in the opening round of the playoffs.
