Sanders marks 100th win as undefeated Viper football starts playoffs

After the Vandegrift Viper varsity football team beat Stony Point 20-17 on Nov. 8 at Monroe Memorial Stadium, it marked the 100th career win for Drew Sanders, head football coach.

Drew Sanders is celebrating triple digits these days. After the Vandegrift varsity football team beat Stony Point 20 – 17 at Ed W. Monroe Memorial Stadium on Nov. 8, it marked not only an undefeated season for the Vipers but also the 100th career win for head coach Sanders.

As the 10-0 Vipers go into the playoffs on Nov. 15 at home vs Cypress’ Bridgeland, Sanders reflects on what brought him to this milestone moment in a Four Points News Q&A.

His coach calls plays as he runs down the court to get another three pointer, the squeak of the shoes and the scream of the crowd gets him amped up. Senior Greg Brown III is currently deciding which school to play college basketball as his last high school season begins.

The Vandegrift FFA floriculture team competed at nationals, Oct. 29 – Nov. 2 in Indianapolis and came home with the silver award. Two of the students who went to nationals last year in vet sciences went this year in floriculture, and three of the four team members come back from college to compete.
