Viper band & Vision Dance earn bronze at state

The Vandegrift band and Vision Dance Co. took home the bronze medal at 2018 UIL 6A State Marching Contest on Nov. 6.  

This is the fifth consecutive state trip for the band, and their third state medal in the program’s ten-year history.  

“This year’s State Finals Contest featured an amazingly competitive and impressive collection of bands… to come out of it as one of the top three 6A Marching Bands in the State of Texas is so exciting,” said Mike Howard, VHS director of bands.

Gas leak affects Steiner

On Oct. 30, a contractor hit a gas line trying to even out the road on Golden Gate Park in Steiner Ranch and the accident displaced families for days.

Some 15 households were evacuated on Tuesday and could not go back into their homes.

The families had to pack quickly including Halloween costumes. They were told by Texas Gas Service to keep their receipts for reimbursements.About eight families stayed in the Residence Inn and some at the Lakeway Holiday Inn.

How Four Points voted

In Precinct 232, with a polling site at Canyon Ridge Middle School, 55 percent of total registered voters in the precinct voted.

Goodwin unseats three-term incumbent Workman

Democrat Vikki Goodwin unseated state Rep. Paul Workman, R-Spicewood, who has been in office since 2011, to head up District 47 — a constituency that includes residents of River Place, Steiner Ranch and Volente. Goodwin has vowed to try to put pressure on the Texas Department of Transportation, the state agency that owns RM 620, to move forward with projects aimed at relieving the road’s severe congestion.

“I know that (RM 620) is a huge issue as I went through Steiner Ranch repeatedly,” Goodwin said. “There’s a long history of trying to improve (RM) 620 and the reason it’s been taking so long is because it is so far behind. It will take more than just a lane added in each direction to relieve traffic.”
